How to re-think your writing and communicate clearly
A 60-minute workshop with Greta Solomon
Have you ever received a document so dense and confusing, that your brain had to work over-time to decipher it? You read all the way to the end, where the key points were finally summarised. But you were still left unsure, and overwhelmed, by the mind-boggling detail.
We’ve all been there. But what we don’t often consider is that this is the place we send our readers – a place of overwhelm and confusion.
It’s completely unintentional, of course. When you’re invested in your content, research, ideas, and expertise, you want to give it your all. Its human nature to want to communicate fully and it’s natural to assume that your readers will grasp your thoughts just as you have.
But there’s a huge leap between what makes sense to you as a writer, and to others as readers, and this is what we’ll explore in this interactive workshop.
You’ll learn:
Why you’ve signed up for the course and what you really want to get out of it
An overview of our brain’s ‘seize and search’ patterns and what it means for our writing
Why 50 per cent of your writing time ought to be spent planning
The seven questions you need to ask about your readers
The 10 writing mistakes most people make (and crucially, the writing remedies)
Through this workshop, you’ll begin to unlearn the bad habits and outdated rules that you’ve swallowed up during academia and your working life so far. You’ll also learn some key tools and techniques that – when applied – will instantly transform your writing.
Pre-workshop consultancy and personalisation is included
You get pre-workshop consultancy with me, which draws on my extensive experience.
We get to the heart of exactly why your team is experiencing difficulties, or challenges, with their writing and communication. I immerse myself in your world during this time, so that I can personalise the slides, the exercises, the tone I take, and the examples I use.
The workshop also comes with a beautifully designed 15-page workbook. Participants can make notes in this digitally during the workshop. And ideally, they will keep this on their desktop and refer to it regularly.
Ultimately, this workshop will refresh how you connect with your clients, customers and colleagues.
It’s ideal for large corporates, and teams of experts who deal with complex information.
