How to write engaging articles and blog posts

A 90-minute workshop with Greta Solomon

Although great writers make it seem effortless and natural, they cleverly structure their writing and use a host of techniques to make it as impactful as possible. This is a practical guide to the nuts and bolts of article writing, where you’ll learn strategies to shape, mould, and bring shine to your writing.

In this fun, interactive workshop you’ll:

  • Annotate two articles, choosing from a personal story, an opinion editorial, a how-to piece, and a traditional feature (aligned with your genre or industry)

  • Learn the key building blocks of articles and how to organise them

  • Understand the broad structural rules of articles, plus why a strong structure allows you to truly express yourself and connect with your readers

  • Experience object writing: a simple technique to add vibrancy to your writing

  • Learn five types of openings and endings, and explore some mini case studies

If you tend to be too slapdash, or too perfectionist, the ‘building blocks’ process enables you to focus on one puzzle piece at a time. It slows you down (in the best way) so that you build a compelling story, rather than hurriedly or painstakingly pulling something together.

This workshop is suitable for all writers and journalists. The aim is to completely demystify the writing process, so that you can bring ANY topic to life. What’s more, you’ll leave with a bag of tools you can use whenever you next hit the keyboard.

Pre-workshop consultancy and personalisation is included

You get pre-workshop consultancy with me, which draws on my extensive experience.

You can either choose the articles we annotate, or I can source them. I deliver the workshop using PowerPoint and can share the slides afterwards so that you can refer back to the tips and tools.

The workshop also includes a copy of my book Heart, Sass & Soul: Journal Your Way to Inspiration and Happiness for each participant. This contains lots of tools, tips, and exercises for bringing writing to life.
