Miros

Problem: For Miros – a company that specialises in wave monitoring and remote sensing – their technical know-how is undoubtedly what separates them from their competitors. However, they weren’t fully reaping the benefits of the company’s products and services. This was because they found their reports and data analysis difficult to understand, so they didn’t fully understand the value of them.

Solution: Explaining technical information in a clear, simple way is a craft that can be learned. So, I created and delivered a two-part workshop in making technical information plain, simple and powerful. My work included creating a bespoke Miros plain English dictionary the employees could consult every time they wrote a document.

Results: The participants learned how to understand their readers; plan and structure documents; use the active voice; substitute verbs for nouns; keep sentences short; avoid flowery words and phrases and craft effective headings and subheadings.
